A secondary headache is a headache caused by an underlying medical condition affecting the head, neck or shoulders. Secondary headaches can be attributed to anything from a toothache to glaucoma.

In order to appropriately diagnose a secondary headache, a patient will begin with a complete diagnostic work-up to rule out a primary headache cause.
